The government of Rondônia enhances blood donation incentive efforts throughout July across the state
With the onset of school holidays and increased travel on the roads, the government of Rondônia is stepping up its initiatives to promote blood donation. This effort aims to ensure that blood supplies remain sufficient to meet potential emergencies and the transfusion needs of healthcare facilities.
In addition to ongoing campaigns at Hemorrede facilities, the Foundation of Hematology and Hemotherapy of Rondônia (Fhemeron) is enhancing external collection efforts and establishing strategic partnerships with public and private institutions to encourage voluntary blood donations, thereby broadening donor access. The goal is to stabilize blood supplies even during the holiday period, when donations typically decrease.
Governor Marcos Rocha highlighted that strengthening the blood donation network reflects the state’s commitment to public health. “Ensuring that blood stocks are replenished is crucial for the effective operation of Hemorrede and demonstrates the government’s dedication to fostering life and solidarity among the populace,” he emphasized.
Fhemeron President Gabriele Moreira Gaspar underscored the importance of campaigns and partnerships at this time. “Our outreach initiatives connect us with the community, creating a shared responsibility and increasing the number of volunteers, which is vital to meeting hospital demands across the state,” she explained.
Maria Luiza, a social worker at Fhemeron, added that the initiative aims not only to increase blood supply but also to maintain transfusion safety. “Even during holidays, it is crucial that our commitment to life continues. Therefore, we seek alternative methods to ensure a steady supply of blood bags by expanding campaigns and engaging dedicated partners,” she noted.
Alongside these campaigns, Fhemeron continues to inform the public about the basic criteria for donation:
- Be in good health;
- Be between 16 and 69 years old (minors must be accompanied by a guardian);
- Weigh at least 50 kilograms;
- Present an official ID with a photo;
- Have had at least 8 hours of sleep the night before;
- Be well-nourished and avoid fatty foods;
- Avoid smoking for at least two hours prior to donation;
- Men can donate up to 4 times a year (minimum gap of 60 days);
- Women can donate up to 3 times a year (minimum gap of 90 days);
