A landless camp has been attacked by gunmen in Rondônia.
According to Rondoniaovivo, the conflict site is at the Gedeon José Duque Camp, which houses 120 families, located on the Carreteira Line, near the Amigo do Campo Camp in Machadinho do Oeste/RO. Residents claim they are being attacked by gunmen from the group Invasão Zero de Rondônia.
This morning, a confrontation occurred between gunmen and farmers, and there are concerns that tensions will escalate with the arrival of more gunmen in the region.
Movement leaders state that the area occupied encompasses four farms and these lands are publicly owned, wrongly seized by large landowners, and should be allocated for settlement of landless farming families.
The families are fearful of further attacks and are requesting a police and judicial presence. The camp that was reportedly attacked this morning is adjacent to the Valdiro Chagas Camp.
