Experts visit a nursery, emphasizing the significance of training and sharing experiences among municipalities
With the aim of enhancing environmental policy at the municipal level and improving the management of local nurseries, the government of Rondônia will participate in the V Meeting of Technicians, Municipal Environmental Secretaries, and Seedling Producers on May 7 and 8. This event is part of the project “Gathering Seeds, Building Nurseries, Planting Forests,” held in Corumbiara and expected to gather about 120 participants, including environmental professionals, public managers, and individuals directly involved in seedling production and the restoration of degraded areas.
This joint initiative is organized by the State Department of Environmental Development (Sedam), the Judiciary of the State of Rondônia (TJRO), and the Intermunicipal Consortium of Central Eastern Rondônia (Cimcero), in collaboration with the Municipal Government of Corumbiara, which will host the event.
The space is the result of integrated actions under the “Gathering Seeds” project.
ABOUT THE EVENT
During the two days of activities, participants will engage in a technical program featuring training sessions and workshops focused on seedling production, germination, seed quality, nursery infrastructure, and management, among other topics related to bolstering reforestation efforts and environmental education. The goal is that the meeting fosters an environment for experience exchange, technical alignment, and collaborative planning, enhancing processes for producing and distributing forest species seedlings across the state.
Governor Marcos Rocha highlights the significance of the initiative, stating, “The Gathering Seeds project is a benchmark in Rondônia for integrating sustainable actions in environmental education, forest restoration, and the value of municipal nurseries. All activities involve communities, schools, managers, and technicians committed to protecting and restoring the environment.”
INTEGRATED ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
Judge Maximiliano Darcy Deitos notes that the meeting is a pivotal stage of the Gathering Seeds project, establishing a model of integrated environmental management in Rondônia. “For TJRO, this initiative signifies an expanded role of the Judiciary through judicial environmental governance, as training environmental agents across various stages—from nursery construction to planting—is crucial for promoting a culture of municipal nurseries. Bringing together these professionals, the event fosters partnerships, encourages experience sharing, and reaffirms our commitment to a greener and more sustainable future,” he stated.
Secretary Marco Antonio Lagos of Sedam emphasizes that the role of municipalities and partners is vital for strengthening environmental policies. “Collaboration among public entities and society is what allows us to advance concrete actions for the environment. We stress the importance of municipal representatives and all those making this strategic initiative possible at the event, which is essential for promoting sustainable environmental development in the state.”
