On Friday night (April 11), the Public Ministry of Rondônia (MPRO) achieved a significant conviction against a woman charged with orchestrating the murder of her ex-boyfriend out of jealousy in Vilhena. The jury accepted the MPRO’s prosecution, imposing a sentence of 23 years in prison. The trial lasted 14 hours, culminating in the defendant’s conviction for qualified homicide, motivated by a base motive and utilizing a method that precluded the victim’s defense.
The defendant plotted the crime following the end of her relationship upon learning that her ex-partner had started a new relationship. On November 18, 2022, she stole a 9mm pistol from a local stable and persuaded her current boyfriend to carry out the execution.
The murder took place on December 29, 2022, around 7 PM, at the exit of the stable in Vilhena. The defendant and her accomplices closed the gates of the venue to force the victim’s vehicle to stop. When the young man exited the car to open the gate, the hitman, recruited by the defendant’s boyfriend, opened fire on the vehicle’s occupants. The ex-boyfriend died from 11 gunshot wounds before the arrival of emergency services, while the second occupant, who was hit by four bullets, survived after medical treatment. Following the crime, the recruiter and the hitman hid the weapon, discarding it in a hard-to-reach location.
In November of the previous year, the hitman and the recruiter were tried and received sentences of 25 and 23 years, respectively. On the same day, the accused of plotting the murder was not judged due to a medical certificate presented, requesting her removal from activities for health reasons.
MPRO’s Role
The MPRO was represented during the trial by prosecutors Rodrigo Leventi Guimarães and Vinícius Basso de Oliveira, who advocated for the prosecution’s case before the jury. The MPRO’s mission is to defend the right to life and ensure the criminal accountability of those responsible for felonies against life. The conviction of those involved underscores the institution’s commitment to public safety and the fight against violence.
